這首歌是我所愛的眾多爵士歌曲裡面最喜歡的一首〝The girl from Ipanema〞。

如果有人要我推薦一首入門的爵士歌曲，我會建議聽看看《The girl from Ipanema》這首曲子。而史上賣最好的爵士專輯是哪一張，我想應該是收錄《The girl from Ipanema》這首歌的【Getz/Gilberto】

一首歌可以在無意中改變人的一生，但就有這麼一首無心插柳的歌曲改變了一位女生的一生。早在Bossa Nova還沒在台灣氾濫，小野麗莎也沒被傳媒封為Bossa Nova女王之前，《The girl from Ipanema》已經傳遍台灣大大小小西餐廳了，很多人都好奇那位唱著不是很標準英文的女孩是誰，答案就是來自巴西的〝Astrud Gilberto〞。

在巴西的首都里約熱內盧(Rio de Janeiro)有一處叫做Ipanema 的海灘，巴西作曲家Antonio Carlos Jobim就住在這一帶；Jobim和一位作詞家Vinicius de Moraes常耗在當地Rua Montenegro一家名叫"Veloso" 的酒吧。他們每天都會看到一位美麗的高中女孩在放學時從酒吧前經過，因而激發了兩人的靈感而寫出了一首歌叫"Garota de Ipanema"，翻成英文就是"The girl from Ipanema"。這位十八歲的女孩名叫Héloisa Pinheiro，那時是1962年。這首歌寫出了男生看到令人驚豔的美女從眼前走過的遐想，看了它的歌詞的話，應該有不少男生會有會心一笑。

1963年美國薩克斯風手Stan Getz和Jobim、João Gilberto共同錄製了一張【Getz/Gilberto】的Bossa Nova專輯。當時製作人Creed Taylor認為The girl from Ipanema這首歌應該加入英語的歌詞以增加賣點；可是João Gilberto只會葡萄牙語而不諳英語，結果Stan Getz竟然想到找João Gilberto的太太Astrud Gilberto來唱。Astrud當時24歲，原本只是陪同先生來紐約當他的翻譯和照顧他的起居，在這之前從來未曾有職業演唱經驗；但Stan Getz堅持認為這是個好主意....。

後來Astrud在錄音室唱了The girl from Ipanema，當他們聽了錄音成果之後，Stan Getz告訴Astrud說：「那首歌會讓妳大紅大紫。(That song is gonna make you very famous.)」整張專輯錄音只花了兩天的時間，也就是Astrud沒有什麼練習就被趕鴨子上架了。結果Stan Getz的預感完全應驗了，這首歌瘋狂暢銷；不僅打進Billboard排行榜前五名達十二週之久，最高名次還到第二名，並且在排行榜盤旋96週。這個專輯近四十年來持續銷售了數百萬張；之後可以說Astrud參與的這首The girl from Ipanema是後來Bassa Nova風因而風靡全球。

The Girl From Ipanema這歌曲的優美，彷彿經過四十多年了，歌裡的那位女孩絲毫未曾變老，苗條的身材、曬黑的皮膚、年輕又美麗，激起無限的遐想。

日本作家村上春樹也因為喜歡這首歌，而寫了篇〝1963/1982的伊帕內瑪姑娘〞短篇小說，裡面寫著：「她永遠是十八歲，又冷又溫柔的伊帕內瑪女孩。．．．如今依然繼續走在灼熱的沙灘上，直到最後一張唱片磨平為止，她會永遠不停地繼續走著。」
